Let's start from the beginning

OK, as this is a new blog, let's go right back to the beginning - what is VX? Only the best sport you've never heard of!

Called 'Dodgeball on steroids' by the Americans, VX is only 8 years old and in that time it has gone from nothing to a presence in about 8000 UK schools, and now making inroads into colleges, leisure centres, prisons, the military, youth groups, hospitals ... It has a presence in 24 countries of which 14 have National Governing Bodies.

The four cornerstones of the sport are honesty, integrity, respect and sportsmanship.

VX is played by two teams of five players in a sports hall. There are five balls in play . No goals, no zones, no markings, no targets - points are scored by hitting the opposition with the balls or by catching an opponent's shot. Unlike dodgeball players can go anywhere on court. Unlike dodgeball, when a player is hit they are not out - the point is recorded and they carry on playing.

There is a singles version called V2 - 1v1 in a squash court with three balls. Intense, personal and gladiatorial.

Doubles is called V4 and is played 2v2 on a squash court with four balls. Even more intense.

VX is a totally mixed sport - males and females play on a totally equal footing. There are no ratios. A team can be all male, all female or any mix. Even in singles it is totally equal - here is a picture of Scotland's Meghan Plummer on her way to the 2012 V2 Youth World Title.

Nothing, but nothing I have ever done in my life has the impact that VX has. I have never known anything like it. Fast, furious and great fun, the response is the same everywhere we go.
